Coronary Calcium Score
What Is a Coronary Calcium Score?
A coronary calcium score is basically a CT scan that zooms in on your heart’s arteries. It’s looking for those pesky calcium deposits that can build up over time, a telltale sign of plaque. Think of plaque like gunk clogging your pipes – not ideal for your heart’s blood flow.
The scan itself is super quick and painless. You lie down, hold your breath for a few seconds, and bam – it’s done. The result is a number, your calcium score. Basically, the higher the number, the more plaque buildup you’ve got. It’s not a diagnosis of heart disease, but it’s a heads-up that something might be brewing.
